Subject: Finally a Pro Deo win against Gandalf!

Author: Eelco de Groot

Date: 09:54:48 07/09/05

After many a lost match against Gandalf in Noomen 06 ECO-B47 and Noomen 07
ECO-B22, the Pro Deo 1.1 Vulcans finally had a little more success last night.

Wins were few and far between against a superior Gandalf 6.01 in the Noomen
matches, Gandalf is leading about 14-2 or something like that, but the first
game from Pro Deo 1.1 vulcan {9k9i} I think was presentable!

Timecontrol was 40 moves in 1 hour 30 minutes, repeated for next 40 moves, on
one Athlon 3200+, no pondering, 200 Mb HT for each engine. Gandalf 6.01 had
access to 5-piece endgame tablebases and 16 Mb cache.

I'm taking some chances here and hesitatingly post my Pro Deo 1.1 Vulcan {9k9i}
settings in the Lokasoft contribution area already:

http://www.lokasoft.nl/usercontributions.htm

I hope the jpg of subcommander T'Pol(Jolene Blalock) is visible to you guys?

Changes to the last Vulcan-version were mainly in lowered Passed Pawn, Double
Pawn, Pawn Formation and Weak Pawns-settings, and Right to Move value.

I still am not at all happy with [Selective Search = 100] PVs so

[Adjusted Selectivity MIDG = 6] * Maximum selective depth (midgame)
[Adjusted Selectivity END0 = 4] * Maximum selective depth (early endgame)
[Adjusted Selectivity END1 = 4] * Maximum selective depth (endgame)
[Adjusted Selectivity END2 = 4] * Maximum selective depth (simple endgame)

are back in again. 6 is a high number and very much untested, 4 for simple
endgame also untested

Now we'll just have to see if Gandalf wins its next 198 games :)

Dom Leste wrote that he also has some ideas for the endgame settings of Pro Deo
which need improving so I hope that a combination of settings in a Master.eng
can be succesful!
