Once you realize that you didn't found anything significant after a few month your motivation is going down. Marc I would suggest you concentrate on one thing at the time, either different books or different personalities. If you are serious about testing perhaps you can test the current develpment version, but in that case we should discuss how to coordinate our testing efforts and you must accept certain standards of testing/tuning.
