Well, his main attittude is on promoting Chinese culture to West by promoting XiangQi. Chinese culture, Chinese way of thinking is based on and illustarted by hieroglyphs. XiangQi with hieroglyphs replaced by figurines would not represent Chinese culture anymore because figurines are Western analogy to hieroglyphs. It is like proposing to implement more action/dynamics into Chinese theatre to make it more attractive to West ;-)
