I never did find out exactly what the secret move was, but I made a few reasonable -looking moves on the board while examining my friend's poker face. I played c4, and he squirmed a bit. "A-ha!" I said, but he never relented his "Not telling!" attitude. I can't recall the exact position as I don't have a board or Winboard at work, but it was the main line Modern Variation by transposition from the Scotch Gambit (for those interested).
