Subject: Is new Shredder a Trojan Horse to Chess960 ?

Is my name already Laokoon?

Probably the gods would discipline me very soon, continuing talking about a
"trojan horse" in the incarnation of the new UCI protocol extension for
Chess960. But this "gods' present is standing just in front of the doors of the
Chess960 scene. But when accepted and integrated it will kiss to dead everything
by its incompatibility. It will durably separate Chess960 from traditional chess
without any need, instead to keep it what it is, a compatible superset to the
classic chess game.

There is neither a need to switch an engine into a Chess960 mode (because all
information needed is in fact included within the FEN string) nor to suddenly
define a new and incompatible FEN for Chess960 positions.

It is not understandable for me, why that new approach of Shredder ignores all
that much work already done by a lot of people. We already have a highly
compatible FEN extension in the form of X-FEN, see
http://www.chessbox.de/Compu/fullchess5b_e.html, and a lot of Chess960 games
already played even at online servers and stored in numerous databases. All work
prior done by people around ARENA has been completly ignored by Shredder's
actual UCI protocoll extension, though having all information at hands in time.

Reinhard (alias Laokoon), facing his bad fate.
