Munjong, there is no need at all to establish an incompatible protocol. See e.g.: http://www.chessbox.de/Compu/fullchess5b_e.html as an alterative. With that SHredder proposal existing Chess960 Starpositions, recorded PGNs, databases with games, Chess960 supporting Online-Servers, the Arena GUI, existing other programs and engines are affected without any need. What sense is in that positions will be encoded differently when viewn from traditional perspective or from new Shredders Chess960 own sight? Take as an example SP-518, which is the traditional chess array. To establish differences here is pure nonsense. And that way it is not only targeting UCI but any protocol using engine or game storage. Reinhard.
