Better in some ways, worse in others.
They are smaller, also easier and faster to generate.

In the two ways mentioned above. However, they contain only the win information,
so if you want to know draw data, you would have to call it twice (if not a win
for A is it a win for B -- if not then draw).

However, the ChessMaster format can only be used by ChessMaster.  That is one
way the Eugene's tablebase files have a clear and obvious superiority.
