As I already have written, it is not important, whether X-FEN or another approach would have been used for to encode Chess960 positions. But it is very important, how compatible such a solution would be. Shredder now produces incompatible Chess960 PGNs which moreover might be diffe- rent, depending on Shredders internal view on it. As an example the traditional starting array SP-518 will be presented in two contradicting forms. For which reason ever one has concluded that Shredders Chess960 FEN solution for Chess960 might be simpler to decode for an engine or GUI programmer, it would of course have made more sense to invest a little more work there, instead of unnecessary frustrating current Chess960 friends. This morning first postings with incompatible PGN have been placed here and in the Arena forum. The Shredder users skip the necessary replacing of the incom- patible castling tags, because they might not be aware of that problem. Such game 'donations' from now on will cause unnecessary quarrels and irritations, when related to Chess960 game databases, online servers or PGN viewers, which have been opened before for Chess960 by some willing friends, no being avoidably dismotivated by devaluating their work with that Shredder approach. Reinhard.
