Hi all :-), I just read all the threads below concerning SSDF. First of all I have to say that I am a big fan of this list for many years already. CEGT however was never designed to compete in any way with such a traditional list with tournament time control and ponder on. It is just a hopefully useful link between the many Blitz tournaments and those with tournament time control. It should preferably help authors of stronger amateur engines to have a quicker guess if they improved with their engine. CEGT came out of AEGT (including predominantly the same testers). This was founded when I asked in the old Winboard Forum if there are people willing to combine their efforts to give better statistical data with a time control that would still allow many hundreds of games for a lot of engines. In AEGT only amateur engines are tested. Today I think that strong engines like Fruit 2.1, ProDeo 1.1, Spike 0.9a, etc. can be tested better when including games against commercials and all our results show that 500 games are not sufficient to determine the strength of an engine and so we play usually 1000 or even more than 2000 for the best. A lot of things might still be improved in the future, but playing with even more time and having the same amount of games is only possible with more testers and it is not easy to find people who are testing with a lot of endurance. Besides all statistics CEGT will also give new kinds of tournaments in the future, as we are intending to have fun with testing. A first example is the City Grand Prix. Others are already planned. More about this in Winboard Forum soon. Anyway thanks to all who support our tournaments and understand that we can“t offer more and better time controls under the given conditions with only ten machines currently. But maybe some things will improve as soon as the dual cores are available at a decent price. http://www.husvankempen.de/nunn/downloads.htm http://uk.geocities.com/bloodhound66@btinternet.com/index.htm http://www.cegt.info/ (german) Best Regards Heinz
