Nagless? AFAIK Shredder Classic is neither freeware nor shareware, and the test
version has limitations. For the complete version, you have to buy it. Having to
pay is the biggest nag no? :)

When Shredder has the power to set standards (and I don't doubt it has), it is
for no other reason than having been computerchess world champion a couple of
times. Because of this great achievements and the quality of his software, SMK
is a scene VIP and that provides some standarisation power, but not because the
GUI is nagless or whatever..

If that would be true, Arena would set standards, not Shredder. Arena is
available free and unlimited.
