I used GCC 3.3.5 since this was the default that came with the latest version
of SUSE.  But, you and Gian-Carlo are the 2nd and 3rd person to encourage me
to look at GCC again (specifically, 4.0).  I'll download and build 3.4
and 4.0 and let you know what I discover.

One point, the PGO stuff didn't really make much of a difference in 3.3.5.
Has this improved with GCC 3.4 or 4.0?  For me, the best results are *always*
from a profiled version of the engine.
