I have had no problems linking the object files. I think all the libraries are
needed, but those details are transparent to me as most of the time crafty
compiles without a glitch (and when not it is because of a clerical mistake on
my part).
I remember I had some problems to compile exchess (C++ program) with gcc due to
some missing libraries (they were not missing, only that my paths were not
pointing to the right place). I told the system administrator, and after I fixed
the paths I do not remember any problem (I update my chess engines every time I
know there is a new release, I even check their homepages frequently only to
check).
