Go up one level in this thread

If nominated I would of course run; purely out of respect for the person who
nominated me.

I highly doubt I would be elected as I am to opinionated, to abrasive, and well
to everything....

I miss all the good programming, SSDF results, and dedicated machine threads.
Those seem to have gone by the way side for threads regarding interface bugs,
which computer to buy, which settings might produce possibly 10 elo over the
defaults, and why Mars was alligned with Jupiter on any given day. New members
are treated with utter disregard, old members aren't treated to much better, and
this place is getting to be like the old r.g.c.c.

So let's just clear up some of the mess.

If you have a bug with either of these interfaces, ask at the appropriate
places:

Arena: http://www.playwitharena.com then click on "Bug Report Form"
ChessPartner: http://www.lokasoft.com/forums
Winboard: http://volker-pittlik.name/wbforum/index.php
Chessbase: http://www.chessbase.com/support/index.asp or email them

95% of the time an interface question is asked here, the answer is simple. User
error. Read the manual, ask at the proper forums, but don't clog this board with
useless "information" requests. They turn into flame wars and are not needed.

For setting of software engines:

99 time out of 100 the best settings _ARE THE DEFAULTS_. They are tested
extensively, and rarely have I seen a setting produce better results than it's
default counterpart to make any real difference.

For the "Anti-Computer Chess Experts" here:

No one cares that you can shuffle pieces back and forth and win on time. No one
cares if you are able to get a draw doing the same damn thing. For those that
do? Sell all your chess boards, give away all your programs, and take up wicker
craft. It is just as exciting as watching that garbage.

Play a _real_ game and see how many times you can get it to draw, or lose on
time.

For all the people that care about COMPUTER CHESS:

Stay right here. You are in the proper place even if it doesn't look like it.
Trust me you are...

Continue doing what you are doing in an orderly fashion, try not to stomp all
over your cd racks, and start talking about what really matters. Beating the
living hell out of the humans in a game that the programs now seem to dominate.
Or find a human that will actually play the right brand of chess to make one of
the man vs machine matches worth talking about.

The Zappa match was atleast interesting. The Adams match was a farce. Kasparov
and Kramnik are useless.

Let's get Anand or Topolov in a match and see how they fair. Hell a strong AEGON
tournament would be cool and spark some interest.

For all the Dedicated Unit lovers out there:

Just be like Steve B and everything will take care of itself.
