It is either a very difficult position or else I'm not assessing it right that
White should not take on g6. What do other programs do?
Pro Deo 1.1 Vulcan {9k9i} holds on to 30.Nxg6 even after two hours now (Athlon
3200+, 200 Mb HT). So taking longer before investing material into positional
advantage would not have helped here.. I was thinking about some switch that
says something like [Think longer about sacrifices = 100] * 200 means take two
times as long than usual about calculating a sacrifice of material, unless that
means a direct loss on time.
Ed, if you read this, how about such a switch, could it work? Just an idea, to
make sacrifices safer. The time invested would not matter much I think, because
in a combination there are often lots of forced moves (recapture moves), and
some of those those could count as "easy" moves to regain any time lost in
calculating the sacrifice.
