Years ago I corresponded with Jim Gillogly and asked him if he had any copies of
the source to his Tech chess program.  As I recall, he replied that all that was
left were a few pdp10 mini tapes for which he had no machine available for
access.

I once had a look at State and Atkin's Chess 3.0 source nearly thirty years ago.
 Written in the ghastly CDC dialect of Fortran, its authors' comments about its
unreadability were not exaggerated.

It's a shame that all or nearly all of the sources of chess programs from the
classic period are irretrievably lost to us.
