My memory is imperfect so it's possible I'm confused and/or mistaken. I believe I read in the old Computer Chess Reports that there were problems with this model and that production was actually halted at one point. The RISC 2500 did indeed have a tendency to "break" prematurely. I don't recall if production later resumed with more reliable 2500's.
