A few months ago when I was looking to purchase either Chess Assistant or Chessbase database software I tried to purchase Chess Assistant 8.0 from a seller on Ebay. I won the auction and within a few days I recieved the "software". What I got was a pirated version with a key generator and a photocopied manual. Of course I called Ebay immediately, sent in photographs of what I obtained, and made a dispute over items not recieved as advertised. After a 3 month dispute with my credit card company, and Ebay/Paypal, I finally got my money back. Now the funny part.... On this website, http://www.tccwo.com you can see the person blames everyone from the buyers to Paypal to Ebay themselves for being suspended and having criminal charges filed against them! They take no responsibility at all for what they did... until... that sweet little gavel dropped. Here is a little quote from the site: "ONE LAST WORD TO THOSE THAT FEEL THE NEED TO FILE COMPLAINTS: Why not just cooperate like many have? if you file a complaint please include this webpage and all communications. include our refund process and state clearly in the complaint you refuse to cooperate.. it would only be telling the truth!" Want to know how they would like you to co-operate? Keep the pirated software and withdraw your complaint and in return you get HALF YOUR MONEY BACK! Heck! Why wouldn't someone co-operate? They get bogus software, something you can never register for updates, and probably wouldn't be able to install an update. They were given until September 1, 2005 to pay restitution to all the people they scammed, and to restore the money back to their Paypal account so that buyers could easily obtain their money back. (This is how mine was refunded) Unfortuantely they were never given any jail time (What the living heck what they judge thinking???!?!?!?) so that they could spend some time grabbing their ankles, while the boys of cell block D ran a train on them :) I thought I would post this as I know there are many ebay users on here, and this is just a little insight as to what can happen on there.
