As repeatedly has been explained: SMIRF is an 8x8 AND 10x8 enabled engine. It is
using only ONE engine NOT TWO. Thus it could not use any traditional protocol.
It is using TMCI (Third Millenium Chess Interface) instead, wich is much more
modern. E.g. there is no need for the GUI to be able to play Chess or to
generate valid moves, and thus it could handle new variants with no or only few
changes needed to be programmed within the GUI application.

Nevertheless it should be possible to transfer PGNs and FENs.
