Master (by frans morsch) is more a search based program. It makes many NPS but has problems with positional stuff. Milano (by ed schroeder) is not so fast concerning search. Sometimes you can watch it computing 3rd ply. but in the result it plays not much weaker. of course in tactical positions the master might be the better choice. on the other hand MILANO might be better for positional analysis or mail-chess. The Master is sold 1/2 the price of the new machine. Reason is that the Master is not so old. The Milano is from 1991, the Master from 2002. in the SSDF list, http://www.schachcomputer.info/html/ssdf.html or in other rating lists such as http://www.schachcomputer.info/html/elo_liste_-_erklarung.html you will find a difference in ELO about 100 ELO between Milano and Master. Both machines do alternatively run with 6 MIGNON cells, so you can use them at the beach or in the car.
