I had been able to use those engines under Fritz 8 GUI in tournaments with
'weaker' engines to assist in establishing baseline ratings (on this computer,
anyway) as long as I had both Fritz 4.01.eng and Fritz 4.01.old in the engine
directory. Same with Fritz 3.16. It wasn't until after I upgraded to WinXP a few
days ago that I noticed they were no longer available, and that not until
yesterday when I was looking for them. (To show you how up to date I am, I had
not even noticed I could have copied the Gambits book from Powerbook 2000 into
my CB/Books folder until today. Might make for some interesting games with
Gambit Tiger 2.0 et al. :) )

If it is not related to WinXP, them maybe I should see about re-installing them
via Fritz 5.32 in some fashion.

Thanks for the info.

David
