You know, I suppose I could have cried "outsourcing!" or something like that.
However, I didn't really mind much (and I'm only speaking for myself -- the
other four US Chessmaster team members who were laid off at the same time I was
might feel differently).

Ubi Soft is a French company, and they bought the rights to Chessmaster when
CM9000 was early in development; they had absolutely no "loyalty" to us. A few
months after CM9000 was released, they switched CM development to a
long-standing team they had in Romania.

And the financial aspect of it is pretty obvious. They could either pay for 5 US
developers or 15 Romanian developers for the same cost. What would you do?

And I suspect that those Romanian guys probably needed the money more than I
did, so I have no hard feelings at all. Of course, I miss working on Chessmaster
very much, but life goes on.
