Like many things in chess as in life, it depends (or so I am claiming). I like
Pro Deo 1.1 for positions/games where the attacking opportunities are there. Pro
Deo is not perfect (no engine is) but it seems to do a good job of finding ways
to attack. It often offers up material to gain pressure on the opponent's
position. In this respect, it is similar to Junior (though Junior is not free of
course and is somewhat stronger than Pro Deo 1.1).

Fruit 2.1 is my overall favorite as it is a decent attacker (but not overly
aggressive) and seems quite good positionally. The latter surprised me when I
first starting using Fruit 2.1 for analysis. It has a well-earned reputation for
having a search that is very solid (rarely overlooks things). I also thought it
had little positional knowledge. I was wrong. It plays fairly quiet positions
much better than I thought it might.

Rejoice in the abundance of free engines we have access to that are easily 2600
strength. Download many of them and configure them; use them to get different
opinions (if we can call their PVs their opinions) and it only costs you the
time you spend letting them analyze.
