That makes allso the code easier for 960 castling verify ;) Hi, this is a fine example, that X-FEN still is well recommended for Chess960 starting positions, because its tags fetched from merely "KQkq" would always chose one specific and DISTINGUISHABLE castling side to the affected King. Using file selection letters in such clear situations like Chess960 starting positions (or positions 'proposed' as that) is creating nothing but confusion, e.g. you could not decide at once whether that information really is consistent. Well introduced X-FEN is fully satisfied with the methods already included in old FEN, so especially starting positions are looking very familiar and they are moreover COMPATIBLE (especially the 18 Pseudo-FRC starting and derived positions), not like the strange Shredder-FEN format, as a gimmic creating two different FEN strings for such positions, just depending on your point of view. That will create unnecessary PGN / FEN doubles in databases and force the user to watch the FEN exactly first before he has to switch to the correct view and never forget about that. Such nonsense could be avoided by using X-FEN like has been done for years in several applications (e.g. SMIRF).
