The size of the pda screen is fine for playing. I don't think any benefits of creating a larger screen would outweigh the portability issue. However, if you wanted to use a fully featured chess program, such as chessbase 9, where you are viewing more than just the board, then something inbetween a pda and a laptop would be ideal for portability.
