Fruit is a UCI engine, so it is a bit tricky to make it work in Winboard without
polyglot.

Try it under arena.
Go here:
http://www.playwitharena.com/

Get this, and run it:
http://www.playwitharena.com/download/arena_11_setup2.exe

Under the Arena sub-folder that you created, there will be a sub-folder called
.\Engines

Create a new subfolder there called Fruit like this:
md Fruit

Then, go here:
http://wbec-ridderkerk.nl/

and get this:
http://wbec-ridderkerk.nl/html/download/fruit/fruit_21.zip
and put it into the .\Arena\Engines\Fruit subfolder

Unzip the file fruit_21.zip with your favorite archive tool (e.g 7-Zip).

Now, start Arena and manage engines, add a new engine (by browsing to the Fruit
subfolder and clicking on the executable).

Tell it that you have a UCI engine.

You should be ready to go then.
