Background: People with lots of time on their hands coupled with the schematic of the device they wish to emulate have been sucessful emulating the C64, Altair 8800, ZX81, etc. Given time and a schematic and a good parts list, one could emulate any dedicated chess machine. The PC would emulate the CPU used in the chess computer along with all the LSI chips in the chess computer design. The data that was in the PROMS get feed to the enulator engine so that that PC is running the same chess program and behaves just like the real chess computer only much faster. If I were retired, had the information listed above, and the time, it would be a fun project. Short answer: I don't know of anyone doing this. It would be great if there were emulators for various dedicated chess computers. It would not be the same as playing on a good wooded chess computer board, but it could be the next best this to owning a R40. Bill
