If you are using hyperthreading (P4 with win-XP pro) you will notice that Shredder 8 (for example) uses two threads, and most other native cb and uci-engines use 1 thread (or cpu). If you use Fritz (not the deep version) it will use "50 %" but that's because it only uses 1 thread. My advice concerning Shredder (previous to 9 version) is that you only use 1 thread on a Hyperthreading system. It doesn't play better using Hyperthreading, at least not at faster time-controls. You can change this in the engine-parameters. If you are using a double-cpu rig, then it's another story of course. In that case however, be careful when playing a ponder-on match between a single cpu-engine and e.g. Shredder. RickH
