It is funny an Israeli posts that about a Sheikh whose country is in war with
Israel.
I DEFINITELY understand why the sheikh is having hydra.
a) development costs he didn't need to pay, it was already strong when he
took it over
b) for just a couple of hundreds of thousands he has already got world wide
publicity with the Adams match. I saw hydra several times mentionned at
CNN even
c) he'll get even more publicity with coming matches
d) what else has he got do to with his money, build atomic bomb to destroy
Israel and after that USA&Europe? Already been done by others. No fun,
and factor 1000 more expensive.
e) hydra team will reach their goal of course. They just buy the GMs and
their machine will look unbeatable. Whether you kick butt with it or
beat their machine in some small forum/chess server or in a 30
participant world championships, that doesn't matter. What matters is
the big goal; the big goal is that the average person on the planet who
now and then turns on his television will see an unbeatable
looking machine. And the sheik can get it with a minimum of investment.
f) they can reuse the hydra machine for other purposes. If you have a 1024
processor hydra machine with fpga cards, you can also ideally use it for
other things such as atomic explosion simulation, weather prediction
and so on. Those machines can do anything except buy you a beer.
So i definitely understand why he invests in Hydra.
