Hallo Bruce!

Thoralf Karlsson has compared the results of all years Aegon-tournaments,
several hundred games and the results was ridiciously close to our list.
If I don´t remember wrong the performance was slightly better in average.
The last year when they played increment time-controls the computers played a
bit under the expected level.

Your last statement can have some point though, but I can see no clear evidence
if this is the case or not. You can pick ten program from the lists from
1997,1998 and the latest one, in average i think they have about the same rating
today.
