This was an FRC (Chess960) game, in which the old rules of thumb do not NECESSARILY apply. In fact, the whole idea of Chess960 is to prevent such rules from ever existing, and to simply find the best move! I'm not saying that 3.Qh5 was the best move, or even a good move. For example, in the opening position of this game: [D]brnqnbkr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/BRNQNBKR w - - 0 1 CM9_R1 likes 1.b4, and who is to say that isn't the best move? In fact, the first five moves of this game look pretty bizarre to a patzer like me. 1.e3 b5 2.b3 e6 3.Qh5. But you can't dismiss these moves out of hand simply because they break the rules of ONE of the 960 possibilities of FRC. jm
