It seems also that well-deserved praise of a magnificent victor is unjustly
diluted by looking around to spread one's commendations on other competitors.

Anything less than wholehearted (unreserved, unrestricted) praise is a bit
biased, to say the least.

The victor is on the podium, under the spotlight.  Let him have his
justly-earned spoils!
