CTD will play anyone, and I probably have matched other computers only a very few times. Nonetheless it is almost constantly playing against humans, more than 16500 games in about 6 months. It is online almost 24hours/day though. The secret is probably that is plays badly, has no king safety, uses a slow machine (finger notes are accurate!), so no deep searches, and therefore looks beatable. Sometimes 1700 rated players manage to win a game too. But most of the time, even 2000+ players will lose as it manages to grab pieces here and there. Thebaron, which is much stronger, plays humans regularly too, but the amount of games it plays each day is lower than that of CTD, (despite the fact that is plays almost anybody, including computers, and used to be online a large part of a day.) With thebaron I do match other computers now and then though. Richard.
