I'd like to hear to what degree Shredder in WCCC13 was an experimental version,
which could perhaps explain its underperformance. If so, Shredder is still alive
and kicking.

On the other hand not much of an explanation is required for an 11 round
tournament. Having a bad tournament can happen to anyone.
The Shredder should tread in the footsteps of the Terminator: "I'll be back."

PS: Understand me well.
I don't want to take anything away from Zappa's magnificent performance.
