Just a comment to your second topic. This is a stats necessity. Because the actual leaders aren't the real strongest. So by nature you get the observed convergence to the middle. (The same would probably happen in loooong tournaments. What we observe is just a too short excerpt from reality. But also that is statistically trivial. Short tournaments have no significance at all.)
