I agree with what you are saying and would like to add the following: As each person creates a new chess program and experiements with new logic which they release to the public, I think it may give new ideas to programmers that may have otherwise come to a stop. Different ways to thinking have caused all kinds of improvements in chess programs today and it is not correct to say that they are all clones or that they have taken someones elses code and called it thier own. We learn by doing and by the examples of others. Gunpowder was a toy when the Chinese first discovered it, but look what it has done and the inventions that it caused to take place.
