If I took fruits evaluation and modified it to use my board and data structures, I would no longer feel that the program was altogether my work. It would not matter if Fabien gave his consent. I would consider the program to be part my work and part Fabien's work. For me, that is unacceptable. Bruce Moreland once said that he wrote his own tablebase code because he felt that using someone else's would make the program less "his". I feel exactly the same way. Lacking Bruce's programming talent, it is unlikely that my program will ever use tablebases. But, I have no problem if others use tablebase code they did not write. Just because it's not right for me doesn't make it wrong. I also have no concerns about you doing something unscrupulous. I know you to be so honest that you would tell your wife or girlfriend "no" if she asked if you liked her new dress. Best Dan H.
