The problem isn't the IDE, but that they include a very old version of MingW
(GNU C for Windows.)

They haven't bothered to update it with a newer, more modern version. They
really should remove the version that has MingW bundled with it.

What you can do is install the full newer version of MingW and tell bloodshed
about it. It takes a few minutes to set up, but it works fine then. (If you
need help, you can always visit the Bloodshed forums for help.)

There are, however, other IDEs. Some of them are open source, some aren't.

However, to be honest, the Bloodshed is actually fairly tolerable and
understands MingW pretty well. It has bugs and so on, but works fine.

Unless you just want to switch to another IDE, of course. In which case it's
really just a matter of personal taste. An afternoon of searching the web and
you'd probably find a dozen or so that work with Mingw, OpenWatcom, etc. etc.

Or if you want to switch to another compiler, in which case Bloodshed isn't
going to be all that good. It was written for Mingw and the GNU tools.

There are good reasons to switch from GNU C. It has quirks. The code it
generates isn't the best. And so on. But it is free and widely used.
