I believe the menu item "query program update" (Help Menu) is the means by which the upgrade is intended to be installed. If that is the case, I doubt it leaves behind a self-extracting .exe or something similar. It just updates the existing .exe and that's it, as far as I know. The update supports Chess960 so you can see if your version shows 'NewChess960 Game' menu item under "File" menu item. Roy
