If you take the UCI version you see that the moves have a rating letter. If you select: 1. Tournament the program will play only moves rated from a to c and will play only moves rated d when there are not a to c ones. 2. Standard the program will play moves from a to d (this is the tournament mode of ChessBase GUI) 3. Wide the program will play moves from a to e (rating them all the same); this is the wide reading mode or ChessBase too. So, the difference is that the tournament mode of UCI version is more restricted to better moves compared to the ChessBase GUI as that is the same as the std. one of UCI.
