I decided to look at a game that kasparov(white) resigned against karpov in the following position when karpov wrote his secret move. [D]4qbk1/5ppp/6b1/2nB4/1p6/1N5P/5PP1/B1Q3K1 b - - 0 1 In the book it was claimed that kasparov found that after Nd3 and trading queens at e1 he has to sacrifice a piece to prevent advancing the pawn. I decided to give it to fruit and fruit suggested 1...Nd3 2.Qe3 Even after giving it the position after 1...Nd3 2.Qe3 it cannot see more than 1.32 pawns for black that is not clear winning advantage. Shredder also cannot see winning advantage after 2.Qe3(shredder's evaluation is less than 2 pawns and it does not suggest to trade queens) New game, 4qbk1/5ppp/6b1/3B4/1p6/1N1nQ2P/5PP1/B5K1 b - - 0 1 Analysis by Fruit 2.1: 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 µ (-1.33) Depth: 1/2 00:00:00 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 -+ (-1.77) Depth: 2/5 00:00:00 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Bd4 µ (-1.37) Depth: 3/6 00:00:00 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Bd4 Bf5 -+ (-1.63) Depth: 4/8 00:00:00 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Bd4 Bf5 5.Nd2 -+ (-1.45) Depth: 5/9 00:00:00 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Bd4 Bf5 5.g4 Bd7 -+ (-1.55) Depth: 6/11 00:00:00 7kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Bd4 Bf5 5.Nd2 Be6 6.e4 -+ (-1.46) Depth: 7/13 00:00:00 15kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Bd4 Bf5 5.g4 Bd7 6.Be4 Bb5 µ (-1.40) Depth: 8/15 00:00:00 50kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Bd4 Bf5 5.g4 Be6 6.Be4 Ne5 7.Nc5 µ (-1.38) Depth: 9/18 00:00:01 149kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Bd4 Bf5 5.Kf1 Bd7 6.Ke2 Bb5 7.Kd2 Ne5 µ (-1.29) Depth: 10/20 00:00:01 381kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Kf1 h5 5.Ke2 h4 6.Bd4 Bf5 7.e4 Nf4+ 8.Kd2 Bd7 µ (-1.27) Depth: 11/25 00:00:01 1065kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Kf1 h5 5.Ke2 h4 6.Bd4 Bf5 7.Nd2 Nc5 8.e4 Bd7 µ (-1.28) Depth: 12/27 00:00:02 2221kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Kf1 Kf8 5.Ke2 f6 6.Bd4 Ke7 7.g4 Kd7 8.Nd2 Nc5 9.e4 µ (-1.20) Depth: 13/28 00:00:04 4600kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Kf1 Kf8 5.Ke2 f6 6.Bd4 Ke7 7.g4 Kd7 8.Nd2 Nc5 9.e4 h6 µ (-1.25) Depth: 14/31 00:00:10 10144kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Kf1 Kf8 5.Ke2 f6 6.Bd4 Ke7 7.g4 h6 8.Nd2 Nc5 9.Nc4 b3 10.Nxd6 Bd3+ 11.Kd2 Kxd6 12.Bxc5+ Kxd5 µ (-1.28) Depth: 15/32 00:00:14 14678kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Nc5 4.Nxc5 Bxc5 5.Kf2 Bc2 6.Ke2 b3 7.Kd2 Bb4+ 8.Ke2 Bd6 9.Bd4 h5 10.e4 h4 11.Kd2 Bf4+ 12.Kc3 µ (-1.23) Depth: 16/34 00:00:27 29122kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Nc5 4.Nd2 Na4 5.Bd4 Nc3 6.Bc4 Bd6 7.Kf2 Kf8 8.Kf3 Bf5 9.e4 Bd7 10.e5 Bc6+ 11.Kf4 Be7 µ (-1.27) Depth: 17/43 00:02:57 186744kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Kf1 Kf8 5.Ke2 f6 6.Bd4 Ke7 7.Kd2 Bc7 8.Nc5 Nxc5 9.Bxc5+ Bd6 10.Bd4 Bf7 11.Be4 h5 12.Bd3 µ (-1.27) Depth: 18/43 00:04:13 275596kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Kf1 Kf8 5.Ke2 f6 6.Bd4 Ke7 7.Kd2 Kd7 8.Bf3 h6 9.Bd5 h5 10.e4 Nf4 11.Nc5+ Ke7 12.Nb7 Nxg2 13.Nxd6 Kxd6 µ (-1.33) Depth: 19/45 00:07:13 474706kN 2...Qxe3 3.fxe3 Bd6 4.Kf1 Kf8 5.Ke2 f6 6.Bd4 Ke7 7.Ba7 Be5 8.Nd2 Kd6 9.Bc4 Nc5 10.Nf3 Bc3 11.Nd4 Be4 12.Nb5+ Kc6 13.Nd4+ Bxd4 14.exd4 µ (-1.32) Depth: 20/48 00:10:22 680235kN (, 28.08.2005) New game, 4qbk1/5ppp/6b1/3B4/1p6/1N1nQ2P/5PP1/B5K1 b -
