Several weeks ago i posted a message about how closely Collectors guard and hold secret the number of defective computers in their collections i also mentioned some of the more common defects and not so common well this one is new to me the Applied Concepts ARB chess computer was the first Tournament sized Wooden Auto-Sensory board released for sale four modules were released for it before the companies involved went out of business Sargon 2.5 Grandmaster Series 3.0 Grandmaster Series 3.5 Grandmaster Series 4.0 the rarest of these was the 3.5 with the 3.0 a close second in checking out my larger boards today the 3.0 has developed a rare defect no matter what level i set it to..it will reply immediately at what appears to be a 1 ply search Queens are sacked for pawns with no compensation bishops are shuffled back and forth from C8-D7 and back again in all other respects the module works perfectly i have never seen this form of defect before i am not sure if this is all that bad actually this rare module now has an even rarer defect :)) thankfully i have another 3.0 in my doubles collection so its just a bookkeeping entry to change the doubles listing from "Mint" to "Funky Defect" and the 3.0 module in the Main collection listing remains unchanged at "Mint" i have to count my lucky stars on this one ,as a little less then a year ago i actually offered this rare module to another rank and file collector for an empty box(of a rare computer)and he declined! :))))) Regards Steve
