Do you have other things running?

The difference between Chessbase/Fritz and Shredder Classic is that CB's run an
engine with a little lower priority. If you try to be modest when you setup the
gui (litle graphic, no 3d etc.) and stop other programs, do it help?

If you are playing engine-engine matches in Fritz, you should also be aware that
even if it lower the native engines the same way there is a difference in a
standard Windows setup. Eg. the native engines are running in foreground when an
external engine are running in background. This could hurt the external engine
more than the native engine if you run other programs or have a cpu-hungry gui.
The fix for this is to give the same priority to fore- and background tasks. For
Win2000 you find this option under Controlpanel/System/Advanced/Performance
options... , I don't have any WinXP available at to moment but I'm sure you find
this yourself.
