Now, there aren't that many top level chess programs so I don't know how
statistically sound this observation can be.

On the other hand, it appears that both these characteristics (being a strong
player and a top level chess programmer) tend to exert a hefty price in terms of
person's free time, while neither seems the most dependable way to ensure a
steady income.

Which could also explain a relatively low number of strong figure skaters among
gifted violinists.
