Don't forget Hiarcs9 at depth 12 is a lot different from Shredder9 at depth 12
and probably most other engines. I'm not aware of anyone doing any tests but
Shredder would probably need at least 2 or 3 plies more to be equal strength.
This is assuming ponder is off. Hiarcs gains through its eval and more
extensions, presumably.

Small elo gains, but maybe analysis or endgame play or other factors are much
better? Some of these things would be much better tested than 5 elo point
improvements! Also unfortuneately when new engines come out the description of
improvements is normally very vague. So we don't know what bugs have been fixed
and what knowledge has been improved/added. We also don't know if they are much
better at long time control games, such as 10 minutes + per move.
