It was meant to prove the censorship & corruption of a German chessforum that is closely related to ChessBase. At the time Friedel & Steinwender were the chiefs of that board. For almost 2 years Schachfan wrote messages without any difficulties. That was the proof that the person behind Schachfan was writing with sense and without any aggressiveness. Two persons knew the identity, the persons were Friedel and Schroeder. The person who then caused the witchhunt against the person behind Schachfan was M. Kästner, someone with a close relation to Schröder. Kästner later left the field out of "juridically forced" reasons. - In the meantime almost all serious writers have left that forum. While the author behind Schachfan is a well-known writer in CCC for a long time. Although in English it's much more difficult to express one's opinions for a German. THe difference between Germany and the USA is simply the conception of freedom and its implementation in the minds of the two populations. Germany comes from two historical dictatorships and the USA is the one of the oldest democracies. That is why Americans respect people also if they have different opinions. In such a German forum you are banned if you are famous for being a critic of ChessBase. This is what I know about the history of Schachfan.
