Many chess programs don't understand endgames. Zappa simply didn't recognize the danger of the passer on the a-file. Shredder is probably the best endgame player of all contemporary programs and I believe that it should point the way to other chess programs. Fruit isn't too bad either in the endgame. Other programs are a cut or two below these two. Peter
