"Who knows" is right. Commercial programs are going to be a bit of a touchy subject... They should be saved and archived, but they can't be distributed for a while. There are a number of commercial programs that should be saved, no question about that. Not necessarily because they are significant now, but they might in the future. At this point, there is no real organization or pattern to our (my) attempt. It's just a matter of collecting as much as possible and then seeing if we (I) have enough to make it worth putting on a web site. If it turns out that we have more than enough... [shrug] If it turns out that we have some physical stuff (such as original media (whether floppy, paper tape, cd, whatever), packaging, early chess computers, etc.), then I have no idea what's going to happen. Ideally, we'd need a physical place to donate it to so it could be on disply or at least archived. Somebody has suggested the "Computer Museuem" but at this point we don't have physical stuff to even consider talking to them.
