Pedestrian had a good showing, winning against zippy as well as other good opponents, and gained quite nicely. The lone new high was recorded by Zchess (2607). The astute reader will note that 2607 is higher than 2600, and might wonder why Zchess remains in the list. The rules (which I made up) state that a program must be above 2600 in two consecutive active weeks in order to graduate. And even then, one is subject to recall, since I am always watching <g>. No one has permanently checked- out yet. TDChess played 357 games to take the games-played award, with Hossa and LambChop in hot pursuit. There don't appear to be any hardware changes this week. CCC Stuff There were some interesting discussions this week on search methods, null-move, hashing and the like. As a result, Amateur added some code which seems to have helped (as others may have, I suspect), and I'd like to thank Dailey, Hyatt, Tuerke and others for their suggestions. What great resources we have in CCC! Fics Stuff The fics server plays host to some strong contenders who don't appear on our list. For those looking to test their latest changes, check out PowerHouse (Fortress), ArasanX and Parrot. These guys will give you a run for your money. re New Feature I thought it might be fun to post an interesting position each week, taken from a u2600 member game. These will normally have interest for the amateur programmer, since he'll be able to compare others' performance against his own. Last week's position generated a lot of comment, and caused me to add limited checks to my qsearch, which seems to have helped somewhat. Anyway, the positions will be posted in a separate message. If you have a good one, please send it to me.
