A couple of things:

1. Who said they were "compelled" to do anything? It just seems that having a
standard protocol that links all chess engines, is desirable.

2. So, you're saying that all the interfaces should be thrown out and each
program should produce it's own, proprietary interface? Geee, that's a great
step in the right direction.
