I would like everyone to support both Winboard and UCI.

Neither protocol is without flaws, but at least they are standardized.

Be that as it may, most professional engines support neither of these.

If someone wants to try to innovate, there are three possibilities:
1. The innovation succeeds.
2. The innovation is partly successful.
3. The innovation falls flat.

I have bought all of the Chessbase engines, but I will not buy them again
because of the difficulty of interoperability with other systems. If they could
process EPD records, I might reconsider. Or if they add a new interface or
something else useful.

At any rate, we vote with our pocketbooks.

If people like the products, then they are going to buy them. If they don't,
then they won't.

Since neither product is going to get anywhere near the shelf space of
ChessMaster, both Zappa and Diep will cater to niche markets and get sold
largely on the needs of a very compact audience. It will be interesting to see
how it plays out.

I would certainly not presume to tell them how to sell their products.
I may ask for features like interoperability with other engines and the ability
to process EPD files (input and output).

I also will not buy any product with a "no publishing" disclaimer.
